Regenerative Therapy Treats the Cause & Restores the Tissue

Increasingly, patients in the United States want to avoid the side effects of medication and complications of surgery. One relatively new innovation in medicine is stem cell therapy treatment, which often uses the body’s own cells to regenerate tissue naturally.

What is regenerative medicine?

Regenerative medicine is a relatively new and diversely powerful medical field. The objective of treatments such as stem cell therapy and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy is to introduce healthy and functional cells in areas where injury or illness has rendered the body incapable of recovery on its own. Through stem cell therapy, cells, often sourced from the patient’s own body, are used to help with tissue repair.

Specialists in this area believe that regenerative medicine could allow many patients to heal and stop their chronic pain. In fact, the broad population who could be assisted by stem cells is simply enormous, encompassing 128 million Americans. Here are four sample patient groups that would benefit, with conservative estimates of how many people could be helped:

  1. Autoimmune disorder patients – 35 million
  2. Diabetes – 16 million
  3. Osteoporosis – 10 million
  4. Heart disease or stroke patients – 5.5 million

Stem cell therapy is also considered a safe and potent method to treat osteoarthritis (OA) and injuries. In terms of injuries, NFL quarterback Peyton Manning had a phenomenal, record-breaking season his first full year after receiving stem cell therapy for his neck. The State of California believes so much in this therapy for OA that it has its own state agency to research it, the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM). “Stem cells have tremendous potential for treating disease and replacing or regenerating the diseased tissue,” notes CIRM. “This treatment [has] a huge impact on the large numbers of patients who suffer from arthritis as well as in reducing the economic burden created by arthritis.”

How does stem cell therapy work?

Stem cell therapy allows the body to heal through the use of stem cells, which can be sourced from the patient’s own body or produced in a lab setting. Specialists can manipulate the cells to become nerve or blood or heart cells, for instance. They can also be directly introduced to an injured area, where they will naturally develop into the type of cell that is needed most. Either way, the stem cells help with repair and recovery.
